Kirsten Cullen Sharma, PsyD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
After more than a decade working with a strong team of clinicians at the NYU Langone Medical Center, Child Study Center, I started a boutique, private practice that specializes in evaluation, treatment and school collaboration for children, tweens, teens and families. I bring specific expertise in early childhood development, learning, behavior, anxiety, executive functioning and ADHD.
I am a neuropsychologist and child psychologist who is incredibly proud to be one of few neuropsychologists in the US who provides therapy as well as assessment for children, tweens and teens. Having expertise in both areas of assessment and evidence-based treatment allows me to better understand the “whole child,” underlying reasons to challenges, and what interventions will be most effective to put into place. My range of experience over the last decade, working with hundreds of families, has helped me to have a solid understanding of brain development and associated behavior, learning, self-esteem and thinking patterns.
One of the favorite parts of my job is putting pieces together, based on evidence, to make sense of a child’s strengths, potential as a student, and social and emotional health. I am committed to working with parents and schools so that children, tweens and teens can thrive. It is gratifying and meaningful to me to help children and families succeed, and to meet Milestones. I am proud to provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to children and families who need new strategies, skills, understanding and tools that improve happiness, confidence and relationships. My ability to individualize treatment to every family makes for meaningful change.
As a mom, I know how important it is to understand your child and reasons for challenges they face, but then also become empowered with strategies that promote growth, mastery and confidence. As a professional, I put myself into the shoes of parents with whom I work, so I that I can best guide them and be compassionate for each situation. I often speak to the media community about best parenting practices, child development, executive functioning, and screen time.
